NIX opened in Mymensingh

In order to provide uninterrupted fast and high-speed internet services, the Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB) has launched the seventh National Internet Exchange (NIX) in Mymensingh. This service was officially inaugurated on Saturday in the evening at Hotel Golden Tulip.

Md. Abdur Rahim Khan, Inspector General of the Directorate of Inspection of Factories and Institutions under the Ministry of Labor and Employment, was present as the chief guest at the opening ceremony. ISPAB President Imdadul Haque presided over the program while the Joint Secretary of Ministry of Commerce, Nahid Afroz was also present. ISPAB Secretary General Nazmul Karim Bhuiyan moderated the event. Md. Kazi Sajjad Hossain Ratan, Convener of Mymensingh Division delivered his welcome address.

While speaking as the chief guest, Md. Abdur Rahim Khan said, a time will come when the amount of data usage will increase to terabytes. Then the necessity of this NIX will be understood. As ISPAB understands the issue and takes steps, the quality of Internet service in the country will be improved. I think the internet infrastructure and digital ecosystem of Bangladesh will be more sustainable through NIX.

It was informed at the event that the data which previously took 55 milliseconds to reach Mymensingh from Singapore will now be available in 1 millisecond through NIX. Internet users of Mymensingh can use internet faster. Apart from Mohakhali, Motijheel, Dhanmondi and Mirpur in the capital, after setting up NIX in Khulna, Chittagong and Mymensingh outside Dhaka, NIX will be set up in Cumilla, Bogura and Rajshahi.

ISPAB Joint General Secretary Abdul Qayyum Rashed, Joint General Secretary-1 Mohammad Anwar Hossain, Director Mahbub Alam Raju, Sakif Ahmed, Md Nashir Uddin and Md Mahmudul Hasan Arif were present on the occasion.

While speaking as the president, the ISPAB president Imdadul Haque said, "I think keeping local data local through NIX will protect us from the dangers of the Internet." This network will play an important role in establishing Smart Bangladesh in natural and man-made disasters. We hope, with the help of IBPC, within the next one year we will be able to deliver the NIX service to the grassroots by installing the necessary NIX PoP in all the divisional and some district cities.
